The New Spirituality

By Linda Gallichhio, CMC, CSC

Ah, it is summertime again – school is out, vacations, beautiful weather, beaches, and the living is easy, isn’t it?

That is the question is life as easy as it can be for you? I have recently noticed that when I tell people about the Spiritual Course they will say I want to take this course or that course first and after that I will take the Spiritual Course. Perhaps meaning that I will keep it on the back burner until I have some extra money to enjoy the Spiritual Course but it is not as necessary as the other courses. I need to spend my money on the serious stuff first.

That really surprises me because after being involved with spiritual practices for more than 10 years I have found the opposite experience. My morning spiritual practices, and prayers provide peace, and grounding for the day to come. I set my intention to go be in the flow of what the day provides and I look forward to noticing what persons, places or things inspire me to make life easier, more fun and just plain fabulous for myself my family and others in this sometimes difficult contentious world we live in. For me this sets the tone of whatever is to come and allows me to handle it with grace and ease.

Of course some days will be easier than others and that is to be expected but I cannot imagine my life without these practices and other belief systems acquired from what I call the new spirituality. What exactly does that mean Linda you may ask. Well let me tell you. The word spirituality means different things to different people. As we teach it in our Spiritual Course it depicts a way of life, a way of being in the world. For instance, we have students in the course that coin the phrase New Spirituality which encompasses aspects of their family religion, including a God of their choosing or not and realizing there are new mysteries unfolding to consciousness everyday in every way if we but have the eyes to see and the ears to listen. We do NOT live in a 5 sensory world but we also have six senses which includes our intuitive spirits, our reading of people’s energies, and if we let ourselves we are able to feel our connectedness as one with all people and the universe.

What I really want to emphasize in the word new is that our belief is that with 2 billion of us in the world of course we all have our own opinions, beliefs and practices and would we want it any other way? This course is all inclusive and respectful of ALL beliefs without judgement. And on the way to discussing and learning with like-minded others you may also realize that like myself if you are open to new mysteries of the world, ideas, concepts and ways you may find will enhance your life and make it easier for you why not? Why not?
