The Growing Need For Weight Loss Coaches
By: James Krieger, M.S., CPC Obesity is a growing problem in this country…literally. The number of obese people in the U.S. has more than doubled since 1980, and it is estimated that if the trends continue, 86% of all Americans will be overweight or obese by 2030. Obesity represents a serious health concern for our society, as it increases the risk of numerous diseases from diabetes to heart disease. The health burden also results in an economic burden; it is estimated that health care costs from obesity will represent nearly 20% of all health care costs in the U.S. by 2030. This is not to mention the psychological burdens that obese people face every single day. Thus, obesity is a serious problem in need of serious solutions. Many Americans try to lose weight again and again, only to regain it again and again. In fact, only 17% of Americans are able to sustain a 10% weight loss after 1 year. The solutions that people have are often few and far between. Surgery is expensive and can be risky. Medications have side effects and provide poor long term results. Commercial weight loss programs also tend to have poor long term results. What is missing from all of these solutions is the personal touch that a weight loss coach can offer. Research shows that people lose more weight when they are personally accountable to someone like a weight loss coach. Weight loss coaches can provide personal guidance that no commercial program or book can provide. A weight loss coach can help someone navigate the daily challenges and struggles that people often face when trying to lose weight and keep it off. A weight loss coach can help someone build a structured framework around setting and achieving goals, and keep that individual on the right path. As the obesity problem grows, the demand for weight loss coaches is growing with it. If you do a Google search for “weight loss coach”, you will come up with thousands of hits. Because there is such a huge demand for weight loss coaches, learning how to become a weight loss coach can dramatically improve your coaching business and increase your clientele. In response to this growing need for weight loss coaches, Fowler Wainwright International is proud to announce the new Certified Weight Loss Coaching Course. This 12-hour course is the most comprehensive course on weight loss coaching that you will ever find. Weight loss coaching is unique in that it needs to address both the physiology and psychology of weight loss. This course shows you how to do both, and shows you how to incorporate the information you learn into the Fowler Wainwright coaching system. See the Fowler Wainwright site for the class schedule so that you can sign up; the first classes will be offered in mid- to late September, with a introductory webinar on September 1st. |
